Author Interview - Gray Dixon

Author Interview - Gray Dixon

Today, it is a pleasure to have author Gray Dixon on my blog answering some questions and presenting her latest release, "Master King"!

Emily: Is there a genre that you would never like to try?

Gray: I’d probably never write horror, the kind that makes you not want to go to sleep with the lights off. I don’t like to read or watch it so I know I wouldn’t want to write it!

Emily: Where does your inspiration come from?

Gray:  Where I least expect it. I was at the speech therapist the other day because of a problem I have with my vocal cords. I’ve a dysfunction and the doctor told me a story of one of her other patients and long story short, the circumstance will fit perfectly into one of the other Master’s story-lines. You just never know where the ideas come from.

Emily: What would you be if you weren’t an author?

Gray: I’m retired from the “day job” and I’ve had quite a number of interesting ones. I’m enjoying writing so to do something else right now doesn’t fit into my life. Ask me in a year.

Emily: Do you have other passions besides writing?

Gray: I like to do crafts—sewing, knitting, painting. Also like to cook.

Emily: What do you think is the hardest thing about writing?

Gray: Starting, getting the motivation once the idea/inspiration takes hold.

Emily: Which is your favorite character that you created?

Gray: Probably Mitchell Prince. I’ve had him in every story with more than a walk-on. He has lines! Don’t know why, but I love how dark, and all Dom I made him.

Emily: How do you deal with bad reviews?

Gray: So far, I haven’t had any bad reviews. The first two books have been well-received. My novella, Cristale’s Awakening, hasn’t received any reviews. I’m just happy people are reading my stories.

Emily:  What was the best review that you received?

Gray: A recent one for Master Prince. “Wow! and again can you say wow? I enjoyed the first book in this series, Master Knight, But Master Prince absolutely blew me away. I couldn’t put Master Prince down.” By Tamara at Smile, Somebody Loves You! This isn’t the entire review, but it was enough.

Emily: Do you prefer writing series or stand alone books?

Gray: Right now, I’d say the series. There are seven books planned, but new characters are evolving, so who knows, maybe more in the future. I like the series because I can create a world within a world with each story. There’s continuity and the characters are like part of my family too.

Emily: Do you plan your book carefully before you start writing or do you let yourself go and see where the story takes you?

Gray: After the initial synopsis, I let it go. I tweak with the story-line from the original synopsis, but the “meat” of the story is a pantster methodology.

                                             Master King

Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance, BDSM

Deep down, he’d defend her honor and lay down his way of life for her.
Now what?
Bailey Melchor is a boutique owner and daddy’s little girl, except she wants to succeed on her own, not using his money. She’s had one true love, but she can’t stand him. Their one-time hookup turned into a disaster twelve years ago. They meet again at a friend’s wedding, but after too many glasses of champagne, they wake up in bed together. Not Dallas, but Vegas.

Excerpt:

“Jared King, if you don’t let me up, I swear I’ll…I’ll…”

“You’ll what, sugar? Scream? Fight me? Divorce me?” He thought he’d throw the last one in to gauge her reaction and maybe see if she’d change her mind about having nothing to do with one another.
“No. Biting might be a good choice considering how close I am to you right now.”
With a defining effort to express his displeasure, he narrowed his eyes and tightened his lips to a thin line. The cold and fierce expression he’d used innumerable times to bring a sub back in line always worked. He didn’t expect her to react in such a violent, demonstrative manner and needed to nip that attitude quick. He leaned into her and spoke with a firm, monotone voice.
“Oh, sugar, I strongly suggest you not even try if you don’t want the same done back to you. Your punishment would be extreme to say the least.” He stood his ground, fists gripped tight on her upper arms, sliding his left hand to her shoulder and squeezing. The reminder of his bite from last night would emphasize his point. “Bailey, you’ve known me a long time. I’m a nice guy, but I don’t care if we’re old friends. You don’t threaten me like that. You understand? I will not—”
“Punishment? I’d like to see you try, mister. I’ll have you know I’m a black belt.”
He let out a throaty laugh. “I bet you do have one and blinged out with diamonds too.” The hold he had around her upper arms tightened. He didn’t mind a little feistiness from his woman, but threats of bodily harm he never, ever tolerated without consequences.
“Oh, you arrogant—”
“Go ahead and try and see what happens. As a matter of fact, I may just do it anyway. Disrespecting your husband is unacceptable behavior.”
“Let me go. You may think you’re my husband because you put a ring on my finger, but that was a mistake we’ll fix damn quick! I also might’ve slept in the same bed and done a few things I can’t remember last night, but that doesn’t mean it will happen again. Now, let me go so I can sit down like the captain said.”
He stared her down and then the pressure of her mouth came down on his groin, but not enough to cause pain. Defiant little vixen. A low growl came from the back of his throat. In slow motion, he released her arms and fisted a hand in her hair, pulling her head back. His eyes narrowed to slits. “That’s it, Bailey, Mr. Nice Guy has left the building.”
He grabbed her under her arms, lifted her in one swift move, spun her around, and yanked her over his knee.
“What are you doing, Jared? Let me up!” She kicked and flailed her legs and arms, but his strength was too much for her to fight against. “You can’t do this. Stop!”
“I’m not sure you’ll enjoy this, sugar, but I don’t care because I plan to take pleasure in every minute.” He slipped his leg around hers and pinned them between the seat and his calves. He grabbed her wrists and held them with one hand. With his free hand he snatched the hem of her dress and scrunched the fabric up to her upper thighs. He slid his palm along her flesh, stopping short of her hip. “Hmm, no panties? Perfect.”
